May 3, 2023
Len Goodman, long-time judge on “Dancing with the Stars” and “Strictly Come Dancing,” professional ballroom dancer, dance teacher, and dance competition director from England, died on April 24th, 2023, at 78 years old, of bone cancer. His agent Jackie Gill says that he died peacefully, and was surrounded by his family in Kent when he passed away.
This was not the first time that Goodman has fought with cancer. Back in 2009, he was diagnosed with cancer and was later treated in a hospital in London. In 2021, he had a small facial melanoma. He was also treated for this and survived.
In late 2022, he stepped down as the main judge on Dancing with the Stars. In an interview, he said, “I’ve decided I’d like to spend more time with my grandchildren and family back in Britain.” (abc7ny.com). He spent 31 seasons on the show, which lasted for over 16 years.
He was very famous for being a judge on these shows, and was well-known worldwide. Many dancers know who he was and watched the shows he was on, and are undoubtedly in mourning at the passing of such a distinguished figure in the field.
