In the movies, cheerleaders are often characterized as spoiled girls that don’t do anything at all. But, when you see the Highland High School Cheer and Pom teams you would think that they were on the football team because these girls work extra hard on everything.

Cheer takes time and dedication to become an amazing cheerleader. Cheerleaders are not just some people that stand on the sidelines and cheer on the football team. They work past their limits, doing different tumbling passes, stunts, and jumps. It takes time, hard work, and practice to get a tumbling a skill and they do not come overnight. With coaches and different drills, cheerleaders are able to get tumbling skills they have always wanted.

As a combination of dance and cheer, pom is a also a hard-working sport that many girls participate in. Dylynn Jones, a sophomore on pom, juggles Pom, One Image, dance at her studio, school, and homework. She and many other girls have a busy schedule, but it’s all worth it. They normally practice three times a week for two to three hours, but sometimes more.

The Pom team practices their cheers, their dances, and all of their routines for all of the functions. They participate in assemblies, varsity games, and many more school functions. Jones remarks“I love Pom! We are all so close and when we get down to business, we are unstoppable! This team is the the best team when we work hard and set a goal we are so dedicated and hardworking. We achieve so many great things!”
