When Highland heard that Chip Pettit, the principal of one of the feeder schools, Towne Meadows, was battling Stage IV Colon Cancer, the school united in this cause.  The goal was simple: to raise $3000 in 3 days.  The Colon Cancer Alliance holds a Run/Walk each November to rally the community towards fighting to knock colon cancer out.  Highland would be participating in this Run/Walk and contributing donations.

T-shirts were sold, donations collected and an astounding amount of $6,177.84 was raised in just 3 days.  If this doesn’t show what a determined community can do, what would? Mr. Bassett, Assistant Principal, puts it in perspective. “Together, you have made an impact greater than monetary donations.  [You have helped in] providing a morale boost to the Pettit family and letting them know we are with them during this time.” says Bassett.

Hawks can take pride in their achievement, but can also know that this effort goes towards a important cause.  Beating Cancer.
